Fourney, William

William Fourney
Lead Keystone Professor 2006 - 2018
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Room 2108 J.M. Patterson Building #083

Research Interests

  • Dynamic fracture mechanics
  • Rock fracture and fragmentation
  • Experimental stress analysis

Bill Fourney has been teaching freshman and sophomore courses almost exclusively over the past 15 years. He was formerly chairman of two different departments here at the University of Maryland and as a result followed closely the successes and failures of a large number of students working towards their BS degrees. As a result he knows very well the importance of working with newly admitted students to provide them with instructors who recognize the importance of getting them motivated to do well in their chosen careers but yet challenging them to expand their knowledge and capabilities. It is in this sense that the Keystone Program tries to work towards making our students well prepared for the final two years of their education.
